FAMILTY TREES OF THE CAMPBELL FAMILY

Descendants of Gardner Campbell
Information provided to me by MOREY GROVE

Generation No. 1

1. GARDNER1 CAMPBELL was born September 24, 1796 in Edinborough, Scotland, and died
September 24, 1856 in Howes Cornors, Waushara Co., Wi.. He married ANNA. She was
born in Dundee, Scotland, and died June 28, 1863 in Howes Cornors, Waushara Co.,Wi..

Notes for GARDNER CAMPBELL:

Gardner was the oldest Campbell ancestor Slater documented of our line. Research by
Donna Campbell places his immigration to the United States ciria 1849. Research has
yet to discover his location or travels prior to 1855

A Campbell second cousin, Anna Gail Sabotos of Bynum, Montana, stated Gardner was
"invited" to leave Scotland as he was an "orangeman"

Morey Grover has documentation his cash purchase of 81.3 acres of land from the U.S.
Government on December 15, 1855 in section 3 of Mt. Morris Township, Wasushara Co. Wi.

Gardner and wife Anne rest in Howes Cornors Cemetary, less then one mile from their
place near Howes Cornors. The Cemetary likely started by Ephrain Sherman Howe 1855.

Research Notes

More About GARDNER CAMPBELL:
Burial: Howes Cornors, Waushara Co., Wi.

More About ANNA:
Burial: Howes Cornors, Waushara Co., Wi.

Child of GARDNER CAMPBELL and ANNA is:
2. i. JAMES M.2 CAMPBELL, b. February 28, 1833, Scotland; d. March 14, 1899, Howes
Cornors, Waushara Co., Wi..

Generation No. 2

2. JAMES M.2 CAMPBELL (GARDNER1) was born February 28, 1833 in Scotland, and died
March 14, 1899 in Howes Cornors, Waushara Co., Wi.. He married CHIRSTINE CLARK
January 08, 1852. She was born August 15, 1830 in Scotland, and died March 10, 1893.

Notes for JAMES M. CAMPBELL:

James M. Campbell was borned in Scotland and (assumed) came to the States with his
father and other Gardner and Anne. Again very likely part of a related family group
that immigrated to U.S. with Gardner Campbell 1849 era Full middle name not known.
James wife Christina Clark appears to be related to other Clarks that acquired land
in Mt. Morris when a James Campbell did (likely our line). James M. and Christina
were in the U.S. for birth of their son James P. Campbell in 1853

It appears the first documented land acquistion for James Campbell (assumed this is
our line) was found in BLM land records. A James Campbell on June 15, 1855 purchased

40 acres of land in MT. Morris.
Again, BLM records show on December 15, 1855 a James Campbell purchasing 40 acres
and a Gardner Campbell purchasing 80 acres. These three tracts were very close to
another. There may not be positive proof that this Gardner and the two james
Campbells were or are related or is our line of family.

The 1870 Federal Census for Waushara Co. lists the family of a James Campbell that
is our line of James Pullar Campbell. So obviously it is with good proof that our
family line was in Mt. Morris area in 1870.

James M. Campbell and family could have followed son James P. and family to the Dakota
Territories. A James M. Campbell is listed in BLM land records as homesteading 160
acres May 1888 in what became Hamlin County, South Dakota.

Donna Campbell has stated that her Campbell descendent, John C. Campbell ( a son of
James M. Campbell) was in the Hamlin County, (became after statehood) area in the late
1880's. This same period (May 1888) James M. Campbell homesteaded 160 acres in Hamlin
County. Morey Grove has documented between the years of 1887 - 1889 as the period our
James P. Campbell and six children left Hamlin County for new opportunities in Montana.
Notes:
1900 Fed. Census, Helean, Lewis and Clark Co. Mt. enuminator lists James P. father as
born in Scotland, James P. father is James M. Campbell were in U.S. prior to the brith
of James M. son of James P. Campbell in 18534, Chicago, Illinois.

Slater listed James M. burial at Howes Cornors, cemetary was omitted. Slator likely
found two Howes Cornors, one on a map in Androscrogging County Maine, the other a
local name for a four cournor county road intersection a few miles southeast of Mt.
Morris in Waushara County, Wisconsin.
The Mt. Morris area Howes Cornor was named after Ephraim Sherman Howe and son Cyrus
Barker Howe. These tow Howes acquired land sepaerately by a county road, thus their
last name was placed on this County road intersection. A Howes Cornors does exist in
Androscrogging County Maine, again named after Howes. Ephraim and Cyrus with
respective families, left Androscrogging County Maine and had relocated to Mt.
Morris area May 1, 1855.
Howes Cornors Cemetary micro film lists a James Campbell. Next lot mentions a
Margaret, second wife of James. Morey Grove has not found what happened to his first
wife Christine who Slator listed as expiring March 10, 1893. Our James M. Campbell
and wife could be buried in Dakota Territories that became Hamlin County, South
Dakota.
LDS IGI file has another submitter on this second son's name. This person is Donna
Campbell, resides in California. Donna is a direct line desendent of John C.
Campbell, a son of James M. Campbell.
Children discovered in 1870 Federal Census for Mt. Morris area of Waushara Co., Wi.
studied January 2000. Age listed in 1870 Federal Census James 17, John 15, Mary 11,
Emma 8, Frank 5 and Lincoln 2.

The year 1849 was quoted by Donna Campbell . In my research I have reduced the year
to between 1833 and 1853 when Gardner Campbell and others came to the U.S.

Children of JAMES CAMPBELL and CHIRSTINE CLARK are:
3. i. JAMES PULLER3 CAMPBELL, b. September 28, 1853, Chicago, Illinois; d.
April 10, 1910, Blackleaf Homestead, West of Bynum, Montana.
ii. JOHN CAMPBELL. iii. MARY CAMPBELL. iv. EMMA CAMPBELL. v. FRANK CAMPBELL. vi. LINCOLN CAMPBELL.

Generation No. 3

3. JAMES PULLER3 CAMPBELL (JAMES M.2, GARDNER1) was born September 28, 1853 in
Chicago, Illinois, and died April 10, 1910 in Blackleaf Homestead, West of Bynum,
Montana. He married (1) ELLA CASSANDRA HOWE December 20, 1873 in Mt. Morris,
Waushara Co., Wisconsin, daughter of CYRUS BARKER HOWE. She was born March 14,
1855 in Mt. Morris area Waushara Co., Wisconsin, and died May 19, 1887 in Elkhorn,
Dakota Territories (became Hamlin Co., South Dakota. He married (2) MARY C.
(MAIDEN NAME UNKNOWN) 1892 in unknown.

Notes for JAMES PULLER CAMPBELL: Harold Slator places James P. Campbell's birth in Chicago, Illinois. He appears to
be the first Campbell or our line born in the U.S. to Scotish parents. Morey Grove's
research suggests James grew into manhood on his fathers land near Mt. Morris. He
did find James listed in the 1870 Federal Census for Waushara County, Wisconsin in
the home of his mother and father.

December 20, 1873 he married a neighbor's daughter, Ella Cassandra Howe. The first
two children, Anna Bell and William were born in Wisconsin assumed on the farm in Mt.
Morris area. Between the years of 1878 and 1880 he was on the move.

If Slator's documentation is correct James P. Campbell and family were in the
rochester, Minnesota when the third child, Sidney Cyrus Campbell was born. Two years
exist on his birth.

Ella's Obituary stated the family were the among the first to settle in the area,
this being near Elkhorn, Dakota Territories, became Elkhorn, Hamlin County, State
of South Dakota.

The Dakota era four more children were born. Tragedy struck May 19, 1887, a Thursday
afternoon when Ella Expired from complications of measles. James P. Salisbury and
Ella's seventh child Ralph was just 15 days old.

James, with 6 children, a very young son, farm and custom threshing business, was
tasked with a heart rendering decision. He allowed Ralph to be adopted (or given)
to an area childless couple, named Labond or Clabond.

Likely 1888, James with 6 children stuck out to improve his lot, relocated to
Marysville, a hard rock mining community 20 or so miles from Helena, Montana.
He was photographed in 1890 in the Drumlummon mine holding up his Stationary Steam
Engineers License.

James P. Campbell remarried 1892 to a Mary C. Morris who had had a son and daughter.
James P. Campbell and 6 children with his first wife, wife Mary with her two Children
and James and Mary's first daughter (11 people in all) were all living in the house
owned by James P. Salisbury in the Belmont District of the Marysville area in the
1900 Federal Census for Lewis and Clark County, Montana.

A second daughter, Buna was born to James P. and Mary Cambell in 1904. James was
found expired in a horse corral on his "Blackleaf area" homestead, located about
16 miles west of Bynum, Teton County, Montana.

His second wife Mary expired in 1922. Both rest in the International Order of Odd
Fellows (IOOF) Cemetary in the Valley a few miles outside of Helena, Montana
